Choosing a Camera Ribbon Cable: Type and Length

ZHUYUNHUA |

A camera project often stalls on one small part: the ribbon cable is too short, or it has the wrong connector at one end. Chinneo's camera FPC ribbon cables come in lengths from 8cm to 100cm, in two types.

  • Longer cables let the camera sit away from the Raspberry Pi board, for example on a pan-tilt mount or tripod

What is in the box

  • Cable only; the camera and board are not included

Pick the type

  • 15-pin to 15-pin, 1.0mm pitch: for a camera and a board that both use the larger 15-pin connector.
  • 22-pin to 15-pin: for a board with the smaller 22-pin camera connector, such as Raspberry Pi 5 or the Zero series, and a camera with a 15-pin connector.

Pick the length

Measure the actual path from board to camera, including bends and any movement, then add some slack. Longer cables let you mount the camera away from the board, for example on a pan-tilt mount or a tripod. A cable much longer than you need leaves loose loops to tidy away.

Questions to settle before you order

  • Your camera and board connectors. There is no model-by-model compatibility list, so check both ends.

See every length on the FPC ribbon cable page.
